Frequently Asked Questions

  • Counselling is a form of talking therapy. It can be described as a process where you sit with a trained professional to talk about your problems and challenges. The counsellor provides a confidential, non-judgemental space for you to be heard. Counselling is not advice giving, it is an empowering process, helping you to discover new perspectives and find your own way.

  • Beginning counselling can be a nerve-wracking process, but don’t let that put you off. You might be ready for counselling if you feel able to discuss what you are facing with somebody else, you might feel stuck - not knowing which way to turn but knowing you want something to change. Counselling involves openness and honesty with yourself, it involves self-reflection and communication with another. You are not expected to have any answers, but a willingness to explore what is going on for you is a great place to start.

  • You can contact me by completing my enquiry form, or by email or phone call.

Following your initial enquiry, we will then organise an initial 15 minute phone call conversation to discuss your needs and how our work together may be beneficial to you. If we decide that we should work together I will send you an information form to gather the necessary information and we will arrange our first session.

  • All material discussed during our sessions is confidential, information will only be shared if I believe there is a serious risk of harm to you or somebody else, or where I am bound by law to disclose information. Where possible, it will be discussed beforehand if I have to breach confidentiality. I keep brief notes of our sessions that are held securely and kept for the recommended seven years (NCPS). I am committed to ensuring the security and protection of your personal data. I am compliant with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and registered with the ICO (num) - please see my ’privacy policy’ for further details.

  • This depends on the nature of our work, we will agree on an initial amount of sessions (typically 6-12) and have an ongoing conversation regarding the length of our work. Counselling can be short-term or long-term depending on your needs and if you feel our work is beneficial to you. Endings are important in counselling. When you decide you are ready to end, I will welcome this conversation and we will decide on an appropriate number of sessions in order to reflect on our work and allow the opportunity for closure.

  • My rate is £40 per 50 minute session. I can offer discounted rates for student counsellors.

  • Our online sessions will take place using Google Meet or Whatsapp Videocall. Google Meet can be accessed through any typically used browser (Chrome, Mozilla, Firefox, Apple Safari and Microsoft Edge) without needing to download any plugins or software. Alternatively, you can download the Google Meet app from Google Play or the App Store to allow you freedom to access the app from anywhere.
